How much assembly is there?
Very little. The dividers slot into the base by hand and no tools are needed – it is a couple of minutes' work.

Will it take heavy cast iron pans?
The supplier describes it as suitable for heavy cast iron cookware, but gives no tested weight limit, so we would not claim a figure. Spread the heaviest pans across the lower slots rather than loading one end.
